Super Easy Lined Zipper Pouches

These pouches are perfect for using a layer cake, which makes them even easier! But feel free to change the sizes all you want to make them suit your needs(: I like to make three nesting pouches (which takes six 10×10 squares from a layer cake) the finished sizes are: 9×5 7×5 and 4×5

All three usually take me about 45 minutes to make.

Here’s what you’ll need:

*all measurements are in inches

Largest Pouch

-2 10×10 pieces coordinating fabric

-1 11in zipper

Medium Pouch

-2 10×8 pieces coordinating fabric

-1 9in zipper

Small Pouch

-2 10×5 pieces coordinating fabric

-1 7in zipper

1.Place the zipper and the outside fabric Right sides together and stitch ¼in from the edge. I use a zipper foot here, but it can be done with a regular foot, especially if your zipper is longer than it needs to be.

2.Now place the Right side of the lining fabric on the wrong side of the zipper, lining up the edges with the outside fabric, and stitch another ¼ in seam.

*steps one and two can be done in one step, but sometimes it’s easier to split them up to make sure the fabric doesn’t slip.

3.Press the two sides of the fabric away from the zipper.

4.Topstitch 1/8 in from the edge of the fabric.

5.Repeat these steps on the other side of the zipper. It will look like two pockets on either side. You will have to open the zipper and move it out of the way to topstitch this time.

6.Turn the bag right side out and pin the zipper 1-2 inches from the top of the bag.

7.Make sure the zipper is open so that you do not lose the zipper puller and sew the sides closed with ½ in seam.

8.Trim the seam allowance to 1/8 in.

9.Turn the bag inside out, poke out the corners and press.

10.Stitch the sides ¼ in from the edge, making sure to enclose the previous seam allowance.

11.Enjoy!

All the pouches are made the exact same way so repeat this process with any sizes you want and there you go!
